The Fly (1986) | 4,5/5 | watched on 19th of September 2024
I went into this movie knowing nothing but the fact that it was referenced in my favorite book series growing up and that it was a sci-fi/horror movie. I was on a somewhat higher plane of being which did not help my case. I'm not one to freak out over gore, but this movie was absolutely disgusting to the point that I had to pause it to collect myself.
The Fly is a romantic movie. It tells a heartbreaking love story, and it was genuinely very sweet at the start. I think that was a really good contrast to the events and to the absolutely fucking vile imagery that was to follow.
My friend watched this movie a day after me. She was hungover and not even slightly shaken by it. There is something wrong with her.
All in all, I loved this movie. I don't think I will watch it again anytime soon.
